A Pittsburgh Tradition & A Hospital Transfer & Sound of the Season

The Pittsburgh Creche will be dedicated at noon on Light Up Night, Friday, November 16. For more information, pictures, and a schedule of performances, visit the official website.

The following statement is from Bishop David A. Zubik, Diocese of Pittsburgh on the Vatican's clearance of the transfer of ownership of the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh to UPMC:

The announcement that the Holy See has given clearance to the transfer of ownership of Mercy Hospital to UPMC is most welcome. We are grateful for the work of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies for Apostolic Life for their quick work in considering the petition. This result means that Catholic health care will remain in Pittsburgh, while the Sisters of Mercy will be able to expand their vital social services. We look forward to working with all involved to ensure that the tradition of excellence that made Mercy Hospital a beacon in Catholic health care in the past will continue with uninterrupted Catholic health care well into the future.

SOUNDS OF THE SEASON
Duquesne University's Mary Pappert School of Music and Campus Ministry are joining forces to present O Come All Ye Faithful, an annual concert that celebrates the season of Advent through music and sacred readings chosen to prepare the hearts of the faithful for the Christmas season.
The concert takes place Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. in St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland. It is free and open to the public.

Advent is the traditional time for spiritual preparation in anticipation of the birth of the Savior, and the program of O Come All Ye Faithful is an amalgam of musical styles and compositions, ranging from hymns and carols from the Renaissance to American Spirituals to works by Handel, Grieg, Rachmaninoff and other composers.
