CBS News Radio & TV Writers Authorize Strike

The union that represents some 500 news writers -- most of which work for CBS News radio and TV -- voted last week to authorize a strike, joining their entertainment counterparts. The news writers with the Writers Guild of America East have been working without a contract since April, 2005. Neither party has been at the negotiating table since January.


Philadelphia Radio Legend, Pioneer Hy Lit Dead at 73
Hy Lit with the 4 Tops

Rock radio pioneer and legendary Philadelphia air personality Hy Lit (aka Hyman Litsky) has died following complications of a knee injury earlier this month. He was 73. Lit had also suffered from Parkinson's disease. During his 50-plus years on the Philly airwaves, Lit worked for over ten radio outlets, before launching the Oldies format on WCAU-AM in 1990. Catholic Radio Coming?

Members of Knights of Columbus Lodge 1400 in Bellevue have applied for a license in Evans City, Butler County, under the corporate name "Fourteen Hundred Inc." The proposed station would broadcast on 89.7 mHz with 3.7 kW of power. The filing is among 132 new non-commercial FM applications in Pennsylvania received by the FCC during a recent "filing window." A majority of the applications are from religious groups.
