An audit by Auditor General Jack Wagner finds that the state is lax in overseeing promises made by companies to create jobs when receiving grants. The audit, spanning the administrations of three governors -- Tom Ridge, Mark Schweiker and Ed Rendell -- found that about 60 percent of the 360 companies that received grants between 2000 and 2003 did not meet their job promises. Here’s a novel idea – stop giving certain “winners” in the private sector state grants so that they can unfairly compete with other businesses. Instead, lower Pennsylvania’s job-killing Corporate Income Tax and Capital Stock and Franchise Tax for ALL businesses. Who is going to start a business in PA when the PA Corporate Income Tax rate is the 3rd highest in the nation?
