A Message from Jerry

The following is a letter from Jerry to all of you:

Friends,

Susan and I would like to let you know what has been going on with me and my absence from the airwaves over the last couple of weeks.

A little more than two weeks ago, I was hospitalized because of chest pains, numbness in my limbs and other signs of cardiac distress. I was admitted overnight for a complete cardiac evaluation, and the diagnosis from the cardiologist is that although my heart is thankfully healthy now, the angina is a warning sign of future problems. I am being treated for cholesterol, and am under my doctor’s supervision for what seems to be an on-going, stress-related illness. My doctor’s orders are that I must make it a top priority to severely decrease the amount of stress in my life. For this reason I have taken an indefinite leave of absence from the radio program.

We are very supportive of the work and vision of WORD-FM, and of its General Manager and Program Director and the entire staff, and I plan to continue to remain involved in the station in any way possible. We are even now looking for ways that I can continue to work together with them in a way that is consistent with medical advice. I have worked with a lot of people over the years, and Chuck Gratner is one of the greatest encouragers I’ve ever worked for. I hope to continue our relationship for a very long time to come.

Susan and I believe that leadership is a long-term enterprise, something that requires a lifetime investment and a good dose of patient waiting mixed in with the work. It is not a matter of short sprints and quick fruit, and we’d like to be at it for a long time. After all, it’s more a matter of where you end up than where you are in the middle.

With gratitude,

Jerry and Susan Bowyer

I am very sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed listening to Jerry talk since before he was a talk show host. I used to listen to him as a guest on various shows when he was involved with the Allegheny Institute. I'll be hoping and praying for him and his family.

God bless Mr. Bowyer and his family. Its a shame his show didn't last longer, but I understand. He will be in our prayers.

Well, I'm definately going to miss listenng to him on the air, but family & health need to come first. I've heard some of the callers he's had to deal with, and no doubt he has a high-stres job.

Best of luck to all of you in the search for a new talk host.

Dan
