Four Radio Companies Settle Payola

CLEAR CHANNEL, CBS RADIO, ENTERCOM and CITADEL have tentatively agreed to pay the government $12.5 million and provide 8,400 half-hour segments of free airtime for independent record labels and local artists as part of a consent decree with the FCC.

It's along the lines of recent rumors - but the package between those four groups and the FCC is extensive. Stations would also track their dealings with the labels under a new set of "rules of engagement" reached with the American Association of Independent Music.
