SENATE VOTES FOR PORK-FILLED IRAQ FUNDING WITH TIMETABLE

50-48. Lieberman voted with the GOP. The FOX News story managed to call the massive pork “domestic priorities such relief to hurricane victims and payments to farmers.” (FOX News) Cal Thomas notes “Citizens Against Government Waste reports that among the outrages in the Senate measure are $24 million for sugar-beet producers, $20 million for reimbursements to Nevada for "insect damage," $3.5 million for guided tours of the Capitol (don't most people expect to buy tickets for such things?), and $3 million for sugar cane and the transfer of funds from holiday ornament sales in the Senate gift shop.” (Wichita Eagle) From Paul Weyrich: The new majority in Congress said it was different from the old majority and that multi-million dollar bridges to nowhere and money for frivolous projects would be a thing of the past. This is what they said and are on record saying on television and in newspapers all across the country barely two months ago yet their self-declared moratorium on earmarks seems to be falling apart already.
