Here comes another one. Talk in Pittsburgh will get a bit more crowded on the FM dial as the scraps of the long dead B-94 WRKZ (93.7 K-ROCK) is planning a flip to Talk as 93.7 THE ZONE on April 2. That's the best they could come up with? The Zone... It's so 80's sports stationish.
Anyway, with this latest attempt at radio comes the return of two local personalities on APRIL 2 as part of a "guy talk" lineup.
Former WDVE and WBGG-A host SCOTT PAULSEN is ticketed for the 1-4p slot, and former KDKA-A evening host JOHN "POTTYMOUTH"MCINTIRE is set for 1-4p, with OPIE AND ANTHONY remaining in mornings, and WESTWOOD ONE's DENNIS MILLER (a local native) 10a-1p.
Pittsburgh already has a more traditional Talk station on FM, CLEAR CHANNEL's WPGB not to mention the best in CHRISTIAN TALK on 101.5 WORD FM and I won't even mention the AM's. There's some speculation that "The Zone" will sound similar to the "Free FM" mix of talk and entertainment that the company has tried in other cities, including Philadelphia (WYSP-FM) and New York (WFNY-FM). But "Free FM" has fallen flat on its face in several markets ... which makes some insiders wonder why CBS is trying it here. Besides, the same nimrods that drove 2, count them 2 radio stations into the ground, are still in charge. This will do better then Krock. Heck, airing wind chimes would do better than Krock. Still they are awful late to the party.
A prototype Web site using the CBS standard "FREE FM" template and a logo for "93.7 THE ZONE, PITTSBURGH'S MAN STATION" has popped up at a URL held by CBS Web designer INTERTECH MEDIA.
Yawn.........
