VICTORY- Sort Of

I was attacked for encouraging readers to vote against the ballot question of shifting some property taxes to larger local income taxes to pay for public schools.

The majority of those that took the time to vote agreed with me. Western Pennsylvania residents voted a strong "no" against shifting some of their property taxes to larger income taxes, a pattern that appeared throughout the state.

Gov. Ed Rendell had pushed hard for the referendum. His spokesman, Chuck Erdo, said, "The governor doesn't believe that the defeat of the local tax shifting question is an indication of anything other than confusion."

Oh yeah, there's confusion alright. I'm confused how Rendall promised us a property tax reduction if we approved gambling, yet we have to now vote for a tax increase to get it. This is not what the Governor promised us.

Oh, yeah! We are OBVIOUSLY too STUPID to know what we are voting for!!!

These damn arrogant Democrats turn what's left of my stomach every time they open the mouths on EITHER of their faces!

I voted against it, and I'm glad I did. Voting an increase in income taxes based on a promise of future property tax cuts moves the burden of taxation from the old to the young. While PA's largest natural resource at this point seems to be old people, it is STILL a bad idea. Young people are leaving the state in droves due to lack of opportunity in many ways.

The dems in power still haven't figured this out. And given that they blame this ballot prop's defeat on voter confusion and stupidity, I doubt they ever will.
