Khaled Mashal, the Hamas policital leader, predicted that the current siege in Gaza would cause an eruption in violence across the Middle East. For encouragement he pointed to Sharon’s withdrawal from Gaza, Barak’s withdrawal from Lebanon and the current U.S. “confusion” in the face of Iraqi resistance. “Time is on the side of the Palestinian people,” he said.
