Cost of General Assembly is $23 per Pa. resident
Lawmakers say they are alarmed by how much the General Assembly spends on itself compared to legislatures of other large states. In 2005, the cost of running the Pennsylvania Legislature was $23 for every resident, compared to $5.83 in Illinois and $3.69 in Ohio, according to figures given yesterday by a researcher from the National Conference of State Legislatures to the Speaker's Commission on Legislative Reform.
