It is embarrassing to be a Republican this morning.
First comes news that the Republican-controlled State Senate authorized $12.7 billion in new debt for capital projects, such as stadiums and convention centers. Note that these are capital projects, not infrastructure projects, such as roads and bridges. Take a deep breath and do the math. This is $3,023 of debt for every household in PA.
Next comes news that the U.S. Senate Republicans are leading the way in pork for earmarks. Fox News reports that the top three lawmakers slipping pet projects into bills are all Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee — Sens. Thad Cochran of Mississippi with $892 million; Ted Stevens of Alaska with $469 million and Richard Shelby of Alabama with $465 million.
Someone please tell me that this is all a bad dream.....
