Steelers Dan Rooney Fumbles

I was disappointed to see Dan Rooney, owner of the Steelers, publicly endorse Barack Obama. Not that Mr. Rooney does not have the right to do so, however Mr. Rooney claims to be a Catholic man that goes to Daily Mass. Despite clear and unwavering church teachings on the sanctity of life, Mr. Rooney has endorsed Barack Obama who does not support a pro-life policy.

Many Americans see Obama as a kind and compassionate candidate. However, Mr. Obama’s compassion does not extend to our most vulnerable members of society - the handicapped and the unborn.

It is well documented that Obama spoke against and voted against the “Born Alive Infants Protection Act”. This Act would require medical care for babies who survived abortion attempts. According to Obama, “these babies should just be left to die”. Also in a debate on MSNBC, when Obama was asked to name a regret. Barack Obama said he would like to take back his vote authorizing congress to intervene to save brain injured Terri Schiavo.

Everyone should be outraged that a potential U.S. President would so callously regret his vote for life over death. He is implying that some citizens are less worthy of life than others. He did not regret his vote for death, when he voted against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

The Bush administration fought to keep abstinence funding in the federal budget, that soon will change if either Clinton or Obama are elected. Obama has stated that if his daughters were to make a mistake, he wants them to avoid the “punishment” of having a baby.

Obama has stated in a open letter to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community that they can be assured of full equality and he advocates the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. (This act defends the definition of Marriage as one man and one woman) I question exactly what values and morals he will advocate if he becomes our President.

It is my hope that the recent visit by the Holy Father will inspire Mr. Rooney and all Catholics to embrace the teaching of the church in which life is valued and protected for all. Without life..... liberty & the pursuit of happiness are worthless.
