Come join the latest rage. It's called attack the torch. Everyone is doing it around the world!As I watch protesters play grab the torch, I don't understand how attacking a woman in a wheel chair will help free Tibet. Even if they get the torch, slam it on the ground and stomp out the flame does anything really change? Of course if you don't care about Tibet or Burma and simply want to save the earth then maybe you are on to something.
By the time the pyro parade is over, the hated torch will have produced about 11 million pounds of carbon emissions. Forget about human rights, China is spewing C02!
The flame is making stops in London, Paris, San Francisco, Bangkok, Islamabad om so on. You can't run from Paris to San Francisco so how does the torch travel? It boards an Air China A330 painted with the Olympic logo. Oh the horror!
The A330 burns 5.4 gallons of fuel per mile. That translates into 462,400 gallons for the entire trip. If every gallon of jet fuel burned produces 23.88 pounds of CO2, the Olympic Torch Relay is adding about 11 million pounds of carbon to the atmosphere. That's 5,500 tons!
