Jim Panyard, Lynn Swann's last remaining opponent for the Republican nomination for governor, exited the race Tuesday, saying he was unable to raise enough money or attract enough news coverage.
Panyard, the retired president and chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association, said the Republican State Committee's endorsement of the former Pittsburgh Steelers star on Saturday — more than three months before the May 16 primary — "sadly, proves the state Republican Party is not interested in principle, but in power and celebrity."
