Jim Toohey, who heads the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives revealed on the air that Gov. Ed Rendell has refused to open a Pennsylvania office of faith based initiatives.
Toohey appeared in Harrisburg today to promote outreach and restate his offer to provide assistance to open such and office here in PA. 31 Governors across the country have opened an office to provide assistance and resources to those who serve communities.
According to Toohey, Sen. Rick Santourm has been fighting to make this a reality but Gov. Rendell has refused. We have countless faith based programs here that show positive results. They could certainly benefit from federal funds and an office to guide them through the process of obtaining those funds.
The federal funds are not limited to Christian organizations and can not be used to preach any religious message. We as Pennsylvania voters need to demand that Gov. Rendell provide leaders of faith the resources the need to reach those in need.
We will track this story and keep you up to date.
