The U.S. has 361 ports on our 95,000 mile shoreline servicing 7500 commercial ships that make over 50,000 port calls, offloading over 7 million containers each year.
After looking over this for a few days my own comclusion is the transfer of management from a London based company to Dubai Ports World of six major ports is a bad idea. America’s seaports are very strategic and security sensitive assets and already quite vulnerable to terror attacks. However, there are mony other reasons I'm not supporting the President on this one.
1. The UAE openly supported the Taliban in Afghanistan.
2.Ten of the 19 September 11th hijackers carried identification documents from or acquired through Dubai.
3. Marwan al-Sheehi, the terrorist who plunged the United Airlines passenger aircraft into the World Trade Center south tower was born in the UAE.
4. Following the attacks on September 11, the U.S. Treasury Department complained about the lack of cooperation by the UAE to trace bin Laden’s bank accounts.
5. The FBI confirmed that some of the funding for the attacks on 9/11 was funneled through the UAE banking system.
6. The UAE has yet to institute laws that would prohibit money laundering.
7. The UAE is actively engaged in censorship of any ideology that is inconsistent with the tenets of Islam.
Just because Dubai has a Hard Rock Cafe, that does not make them pro-Western? They just like pricey cheeseburgers.

My thoughts ...
1. The UAE openly supported the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Now there is no Taliban ... the US has shown that there is a all or nothing stance regarding the war on terror.
2.Ten of the 19 September 11th hijackers carried identification documents from or acquired through Dubai.
They could have just as easily come from GB, Canada, or Mexico ...
3. Marwan al-Sheehi, the terrorist who plunged the United Airlines passenger aircraft into the World Trade Center south tower was born in the UAE.
Man is a prodcut of his choices not of his nationality.
4. Following the attacks on September 11, the U.S. Treasury Department complained about the lack of cooperation by the UAE to trace bin Laden’s bank accounts.
Their position has changed subsequent to that.
5. The FBI confirmed that some of the funding for the attacks on 9/11 was funneled through the UAE banking system.
Their position has changed subsequent to that.
6. The UAE has yet to institute laws that would prohibit money laundering.
Laws don't irradicate the evil works ...
7. The UAE is actively engaged in censorship of any ideology that is inconsistent with the tenets of Islam.
They are a Islamic state. I would be more surprised if they didn't. Not every Islamist is a terrorist - though it seems that every terrorist is an Islamist.
This UAE company operates ports globally. They are in the business of operating ports. Do you really think they would put them selves out of business just to open a door to the US? If this is true ... then all commercial airlines from the Arabic world ought to be barred from American airspace and no American carriers should be allowed to fly there either.
Wrapping this UAE company into an economic deal actually helps out security.
