An Arch or Crescent

The choice of a red crescent to honor the victims of Flight 93 who fought back against Muslim hijackers on 9-11 is being blasted as "unsuitable" by a U.S. congressman who is urging its rejection.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., has sent a letter to the Interior Department, asking officials to reconsider the "Crescent of Embrace" design due to the symbol's ties to Islam.

We have talked about this a bit on the show. I have no doubt that this was not done on purpose. I also acknowledge there are a few nutballs behind this argument. Still, I personally have an issue with this design. The makeshift fence with notes and items left by visitors seems to me much more fitting.

This memorial is not just for the families of the victims. It is for the nation and the world to stop and ponder what can happen when religion is replace with evil and how all of us may be called to take a stand someday.

Just the fact that this design brings Islam to the mind of some should be enough to rethink the entire plan. It should not be at all about controversy. This is a sacred resting place of hero's and should be treated as such. This memorial belongs to all of us. Christians, Muslims and all faiths will venture to pay respects in their own way. It is a true shame that this was not adressed before the unveiling. Now we must be sensitive to all who still grieve in the wake of 9/11 and make the appropriate design changes right away.

It is improtant the foucs be put back on the true purpose of this memorial.
