Pharmacists Sue Illinois Governor Over Dispensing of Birth Control
CNSNews.com) - The owners of five Illinois pharmacies say they are suing Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich over his rule requiring pharmacies to dispense the morning-after pill "without delay." Americans United for Life (AUL) plans to hold a Wednesday afternoon press conference to announce detail of the lawsuit filed on behalf of Luke Vander Bleek, owner of two pharmacies in Whiteside County; Tom O'Shea, owner of two pharmacies in Dekalb County; and Glen Kosirog, owner of one pharmacy in Cook County. According to AUL, each of the owners is asserting his right under the Illinois Right of Conscience Act to opt out of selling or dispensing drugs they find to be morally objectionable. Gov. Blagojevich issued an emergency order in April requiring drug stores that stock and dispense contraceptives to fill birth control prescriptions, including the morning-after pill, without delay.
