Sen. Logan again proposes end to property tax

Steps away from where a sheriff's sale was taking place, Democratic state Sen. Sean Logan today unveiled his new-and-improved plan to allow voters to abolish property taxes on their homes.

Logan wants to eliminate city-, school- and county-levied property taxes on all primary residences, meaning second homes and businesses would still be taxed. He'd do that by increasing the state personal income tax from 3.07 percent to 4.07 percent and by increasing the sales tax by 2 percentage points, increasing the 6 percent base tax to 8 percent.

Logan held his press conference today outside the Allegheny County Courthouse, the site of the county sheriff's office's monthly auctions. The sheriff sells off properties -- usually homes -- that have been seized because of the owner's inability, or failure, to pay taxes.

So basically, switch the burden from the old to the young. Which is a GREAT idea, because one thing PA has too many of is young people and not enough old people!!!

Grrr...
